Cape Town – Deputy Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Parks Tau has replaced President Cyril Ramaphosa as an MP.
Tau, 54, was sworn in on Wednesday, filling the position vacated by Ramaphosa as he began his second term as president.
This afternoon, Mr Parks Tau took his oath of office as a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly, administered by the Speaker of the National Assembly. He replaces President Cyril Ramaphosa, who vacated his MP seat upon being elected President. #7thParliament… pic.twitter.com/7qsijwyNb9

Previously, Tau was 74th on the ANC’s parliamentary candidate list but was not among the initial 400 MPs sworn in last Friday.
Tau, who was Johannesburg’s mayor until 2016, had been appointed by Ramaphosa as deputy minister in March 2023 and had served as Gauteng’s MEC for economic development from 2019 to 2020.
