Cape Town – Build One SA leader Mmusi Maimane’s election campaign advert has captured significant attention without resorting to insults or flag burning.
The 55-second video criticises corruption, crime, and failing education as destabilising South Africa’s foundations and calls for new leadership to build a better future.
“Every country needs strong foundations but in SA our foundations have been destabilised by corruption, crime and failing education, all of which leads to high unemployment. SA needs change, leaders who will build from the ground up, end crime, fix education and build a better future for our children, and ensure there is a job in every home,” Maimane says in the video.

The ad’s notable moment is Maimane slapping away a “corruption” block and shouting “hay’suka Cyril [get away, Cyril]”.
Social media users praised the advert’s creativity and compared it to the DA’s controversial ad, which featured a burning South African flag.
The DA defended their ad, claiming it symbolised the potential downfall if certain political parties formed a coalition government.
