Cape Town — The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party continues to face internal struggles as it waits to finalise its candidate list.
The party said it is still undecided over the finality of its candidate list after the ConCourt ruled that former president and current MK leader, Jacob Zuma, was barred from becoming a Member of Parliament (MP).
The party is now dealing with internal battles that remain unresolved less than one week away from the general elections, EWN reported.
According to Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, the party said the names on the list submitted to Parliament were manipulated and not the final list, and that the party line was not followed in the name selection.
“There were lists that were submitted. People were given the responsibility to upload those lists according to what party line and recommendations were, and they didn’t. We actually had to open up a case. I wouldn’t use that parliamentary list as the final position of MK’s parliamentary list – it’s not,” the report quoted Ndhlela as saying.

While the party tries to sort out its list for Parliament, the list does show how some of its candidates include former African National Congress members of Parliament (MPs), like former National Council of Provinces deputy chair Raseriti Tau, who could return to the legislature in MK Party colours.
According to The Witness, Sophonia Tsekedi, 64, now tops the MK Party list that was submitted to the IEC. MK Party secretary-general, Sihle Ngubane, spoke after the ConCourt ruling and said the party was disappointed in the decision but said ultimately, Zuma remained in charge.
“Jacob Zuma will give us a directive of what is next going forward, but we are still comfortable that he is still the leader of the party and will take the decision and give us as the executive what is the next step and direction going forward,” said Ngubane.
Among the renowned names remaining on the MK’s candidate lists include Des van Rooyen, Visvin Reddy (9th), Joel Ngubane (10th), David Mandla Skosana (15th) Zuma’s daughter, Dudizile Zuma-Sambudla (18th).
