Cape Town — African National Congress (ANC) veteran and former Gauteng premier, Tokyo Sexwale, is currently embarking on a campaign trail in Gauteng ahead of the general elections.
Sexwale started his campaign trail in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni on Tuesday and said the ANC was in trouble and that it was down to leaders from past and present to join the campaign ensure that the party would stay in power, and said he has come out to bolster the ruling party’s campaign efforts, TimesLIVE reported.
“When your home is on fire, when your father’s home is on fire, you don’t ask questions, you take a bucket and join others to douse the flames. You will talk later about what caused the fire and what caused the problems. But for now we need to soldier on in the trenches as Chris Hani did.” he said.
“We are here to campaign for the ANC and not to decampaign anyone. We are here to decampaign lack of water for our people, potholes, poverty and to campaign for the success of this country to be rebuilt,” he added.

According to IOL, Sexwale is one of many prominent political giants the party has used to bolster their elections campaign, in a bid to strengthen their support base.
Former president, Thabo Mbeki, Deputy Presidents, David Mabuza and Kgalema Motlanthe, have joined Sexwale in campaigning for the ruling party, and Sexwale said there was still hope within the ANC to lead the party to victory.
“The wheels have not all fallen off, the screws are loose, but this wagon, this vehicle of the ANC, is still on, that’s why we are here. Our people still have a belief in what the ANC can achieve with them and for them. We still have our wheels, we are just here to tighten them up,” Sexwale said.
The next leg of Sexwale’s campaign trail took place in Soweto on Wednesday, alongside Gauteng Provincial Secretary, TK Nciza, and Kaizer Chiefs legend, Doctor Khumalo, in a plan to meet and engage with residents.
