Cape Town — The Springboks were the biggest winners on the night at the 17th annual South African Sports Awards that took place at Sun City on Sunday evening.
The award ceremony celebrates the biggest and best sporting achievements by South African teams and athletes over the past year, with notable achievements being the Springboks’ historic 2023 Rugby World Cup win, while the Proteas and Bafana Bafana reached the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup and AFCON respectively.
Speaking at the awards show, the department of Sport, Arts and Culture said: “South African sportsmen and sportswomen have been pivotal in steering national building and flying the country’s flag high and are worthy of all the praise they received at this year’s sports awards,” The Citizen reported.
