Cape Town – A 41-year-old man is set to appear in Taung Magistrate’s Court on Monday for reportedly violating a protection order under the Domestic Violence Act.
According to North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, the man is accused of assaulting his 73-year-old mother, who had secured the order against him, at her residence in Matolong village, Taung, last Thursday.
The son was arrested the next day.
Meanwhile, in Limpopo’s Tubatse policing area, a 26-year-old woman was arrested for the murder of a mentally disabled man following an altercation.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that the man visited the suspect’s home on Friday night and purportedly exhibited aggressive behaviour towards her.
“The suspect screamed for help and community members rushed to the house, and upon their arrival, they allegedly assaulted the man. It is alleged the suspect also assaulted the victim.
“The crowd thereafter dispersed and the suspect, accompanied by other relatives, transported the injured man to his residence in Mareseleng village and they explained to his family what transpired. The victim was never taken to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries the next day [Saturday].”
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Praktiseer magistrate’s court on Monday.
