Cape Town – The ANC is reportedly proceeding with former president Jacob Zuma’s disciplinary hearing, albeit in an online format.
The party is holding Zuma accountable for violating its constitution by endorsing the newly-formed uMkhonto weSizwe party, which he now leads.
According to EWN, despite initial speculation of a postponement until after the national elections, a notice from the party’s national disciplinary committee administrator suggests the hearing would proceed as planned on Tuesday.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula is expected to provide further updates on the disciplinary process against Zuma, the report said.
Mbalula had earlier written a letter to the ANC disciplinary committee chairperson, Ralph Mgijima, asking him to delay Zuma’s disciplinary hearing.

The postponement was linked to fears of unrest ahead of the upcoming national and provincial elections.
“Based on an assessment of the security situation prevailing at Luthuli House we are advised that activities, including disciplinary hearings, that attract large gatherings, are not advisable as they have the potential to result in violence, especially so close to the National and Provincial Elections scheduled for 29 May 2024.
“Accordingly, the ANC National Officials have decided that such activities should be held in abeyance until after the 2024 National and Provincial Elections, this includes the NDC hearing of JG Zuma,” read part of the letter.
