Cape Town – ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president Collen Malatji has reflected on former South African president Thabo Mbeki’s warning about Jacob Zuma’s leadership, citing current challenges faced by the ANC.
According to IOL, Malatji criticized the decision to elect Zuma, now the leader of the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, accusing him of disrupting the political landscape.
Malatji emphasised the need for the ANC to heed Mbeki’s earlier warnings.
“There is no one that knows the Nkandla fellow more than president Thabo Mbeki, he knows him better because he was his deputy. We did not believe him when he said we were giving the country to the dogs. We did not listen but I think this time around we will learn to,” the report quoted Malatji as saying.
He was addressing the media at the ANC’s headquarters, Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Thursday.
He added: “Zuma is showing us flames already, a political party that is not even a year old but is highly funded by forces of regime change, the people that Mbeki told us that they are the enemies of the revolution,”
Meanwhile, Zuma is expected to appear before an ANC disciplinary hearing, accused of violating party regulations.
“Former ANC President Zuma is accused of contravening the ANC constitution when he, one publicly endorsed the newly formed uMkhonto we Sizwe party (MK) on the 16th of December 2023 and, two, when he appeared on the candidate list for the MK Party. Zuma may be represented by any member of the ANC in good standing at the hearing,” read the notice.
