Air Mauritius has launched an academy that will offer world-class pilot training.
The Air Mauritius Institute Flying Academy is ‘dedicated to the training of technical and cabin personnel among others’, according to the official website. ‘Its purpose is to offer a comprehensive breadth of training in various aviation disciplines using avenues of co-operation with other internationally recognised aviation organisations.’
Among the courses on offer is an International Civil Aviation Organisation-recognised airline transport pilot licence, which is also accredited by the Mauritius Qualifications Authority and the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
The academy will work in partnership with South Africa’s Progress Flight Academy and the courses will be divided into two parts. The first, lasting 24 weeks, will be held at the academy headquarters in Ebène, Mauritius, followed by practical flight training in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, which takes place over 44 to 54 weeks.
‘Passenger traffic is expected to double over the next 15 years,’ says Air Mauritius CEO Somas Appavou. ‘The future of our industry is therefore dependent on our ability to prepare for this extraordinary growth potential while providing appropriate infrastructure and qualified workforce.’
