Cae Town – Former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party faces turmoil ahead of the upcoming elections, with allegations of fraud and leadership purges surfacing, reports said on Sunday.
Citing City Press, EWN reported that the party has been accused of forging signatures to secure its spot on the 2024 ballot, with former senior official Lennox Ntsodo alleging widespread fraud involving job seeker data from the Cape Metro Council.
To appear on the 2024 ballot, political parties were required by law to gather and submit a minimum of 15,000 signatures from members and supporters.
Ntsodo reportedly informed Western Cape police that a group of 20 individuals he appointed orchestrated the large-scale forgery of signatures. Allegedly, this team illicitly acquired names, ID numbers, and phone numbers of job seekers from the Cape Metro Council’s database.
This comes a few after the party fired its founder, Jabulani Khumalo, to “cleanse itself”.
Khumalo, the man who founded and registered the party with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) last year, was among four members who were expelled. The other four members included Ray Khumalo, Bheki Manzini, Lebo Moepeng and Rochelle Davidson.
The party said it was part of its commitment to purify itself from rogue elements who would blur its lines on the way to a two-thirds majority, IOL reported.
