Cape Town — Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, says it would be willing to prove the legitimacy of its 140 000 signatures collected ahead of the general elections.
This claim by the party comes after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, questioned the legitimacy of the party’s signatures, raising concerns over the verification process for political party signatures required by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), IOL reported.
“Systems need to be put in place to verify the authenticity of signatures. The EFF has approached the IEC, requesting that it patch loopholes that are allegedly allowing political parties to submit fake and unverified signatures,” Malema said.

📍Interesting observation from Malema because I can’t recall seeing social media posts of any of BOSA’s team members getting signatures, or packing those boxes like they tweet about every… pic.twitter.com/czC6Y9NTEf

In response, BOSA released a statement saying it was flattered by Malema’s interest in the party and challenged him to come and view the validity of the signatures himself.
Malema and others must accept BOSA’s growth. We therefore today challenge Mr Malema to come examine BOSA’s 140,000 signatures himself outside the IEC offices in Tshwane this Wednesday 24 April at 15:00. We will make available the 140,000 signatures for his perusal.” BOSA spokesperson, Roger Solomons, said.
He added that Malema is part of the “Gatekeepers of the Status Quo” trying their best to protect their turf from newcomers like BOSA, who offer a fresh start.
The party also challenged Malema to reveal his cards as to who paid for the party’s national manifesto launch, as well as each provincial manifesto launch, which amounted to several million rands.
