A South African streamer has landed a starring role in a global campaign to make vegetables cool among gamers.
Bizcommunity reports that global food brand Knorr has launched its #ModTheVeg campaign, which features world-famous gamer and streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and eight other global streamers, including local gamer Barrie Forrester, also known as the Caramel Gamer or as his character “Lovemore Dlamini”.
Knorr launched the campaign after it noticed that in the gaming world, vegetables offered less healing power than meat- based items during quests. It has now made a veggie mod available for a range of games ‘ to make virtual veg just as powerful, fun and rewarding as the real deal’.
From Friday, 22 March Ninja and the eight other gamers will stream using the new veggie-specific mods to champion veggie equality .
“Our goal is to enhance the attractiveness and benefits of consuming vegetables in games, ensuring they are as rewarding as other food options in the gaming realm,” said Forrester.
Janine van Rooyen, nutrition business lead from Knorr South Africa, said the company had been”on this journey to empower consumers to adopt better eating habits that are not only beneficial for themselves but also the planet”.
“Now, by extending our efforts into the realm of gaming, we are leveraging innovation to champion the irresistible goodness of vegetables in the real and virtual world,” said Van Rooyen.
The campaign is also encouraging gamers to sign a petition to enhance the power of veggies in video games. So far more than 20 000 gamers have signed the petition.
