Cape Town — The Gauteng government has urged unemployed people across the province to head to their nearest school and apply for the UIF’s labour activation programme.
The UIF launched it’s 23.8 billion project earlier this month and the first stage of applications kicked off on Saturday in Gauteng. The UIF said it was [art of the labour and employment department’s efforts to improve unemployment in the country, as a large number of people, namely the youth, still remain jobless, EWN reported.
The government said residents can take their IDs to the nearest school and can then apply for jobs available in the respective departments in the province. The new programme is expected to employ nearly 500 000 in the province over the next 6-36 months and the programme will be rolled out in stages across the country this coming month.
All unemployed Gauteng residents are urged to go to their nearest school on tbe 13 & 14 April 2024 to register for the Jobs & Skills programmes.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has assured residents that these job opportunities are not only reserved for people under 35-years-old, but every unemployed resident in the province.
“We are on more than 15 000 applications ever hour! Our desire to re-skill and train the unemployed wuth future new skills to propel Gauteng to new economic levels remain on track,” Lesufi said on X.
