Cape Town — President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans not to get disheartened by the many “loud noises” currently circulating around the country ahead of the upcoming elections.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the African National Congress’s (ANC) Presidential Gala Dinner organised each year by the party’s Progressive Business Forum which was attended by politicians, business people, and artists, SABC News reported.
The dinner was an opportunity for the governing party to raise funds ahead of the elections where attendees have the chance to pay to sit next to, as well as have their photo taken with the president.
Speaking at the dinner, Ramaphosa said the loud noises circulating in the country at the moment is a sign that South Africa is a functioning democracy
“As a robust democracy … our elections process is always accompanied by noise, many voices and many views as it should be as well as many choices. This, we should welcome and it should never dishearten us because we are a democracy that is robust, [and] that has proven itself over the past 30 years, that is it a democracy steeped in the will of the people of SA.” he said
“But if one looks beyond the noise and the rhetoric, what stands out is the vision and the dedication as well as the capabilities of the ANC,” he added.
