Cape Town — Newly-elected Ekurhuleni mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, says stability and service delivery remain the priority in the municipality.
Xhakaza was elected unopposed following a lengthy delay and strenuous and extraordinary council meeting. He took over from former mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana, who was dismissed after a motion of no-confidence against him.
Xhakaza said he will prioritise service delivery and is committed to serving the residents of Ekurhuleni, SABC News reported.
“Our commitment is to serve, and council is there to ensure that we serve with honour and integrity and most importantly, we serve the people of Ekurhuleni, and we do and do our best to get service delivery and ensure that not just service delivery but it is impactful.” Xhakaza said.

Xhakaza said a re-shuffle of the cabinet was imminent as he and the city officials attempt to restore stability in the municipality. He also said he will begin consultations on who he wants as part of his team, as reported by EWN.
“What we want to assure out people now is that the City of Ekurhuleni is on track, there’s a collective of leadership that wants to take the issues of government forward. Our pre-occupation is how do you unite and build a team out of all the political parties in council but you’ll agree with me that if we were able to pull it together in terms of the election of a mayor then it should be possible with all the other issues.” he said.
