Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged Easter observers to pray for smooth elections in South Africa.
He was attending a church service on Friday in Bloemfontein as part of his Easter activities.
Nearly 28 million South Africans are expected to vote in two months.
Ramaphosa called for prayers for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to be strengthened for the complex election, ensuring inclusivity and effective execution of their duties.
“We would like the IEC to be strengthened so that they are able break forth, so that they leave no one behind, and do their work as laid out in the election,” EWN quoted Ramaphosa as saying.

Ramaphosa emphasised that it is crucial for all participating parties in the election to engage in peaceful and tolerant campaigning, allowing each party the opportunity to campaign nationwide and seek support from the people of South Africa.
According to The Citizen, the South African Police Service (SAPS) was also included in the president’s prayers.
“…Also to pray for our state institutions, the police, the various officers who are going to ensure that they safeguard the elections, and strengthen our democracy through the work that they’ll be doing,” Ramaphosa said.
The president clarified that his visits to churches during the Easter weekend were not part of a campaign effort, SABC News reported.
During the church service, prayers were offered for Ramaphosa’s protection, guidance, and stamina, the report said.
