Cape Town — Students from Damelin Colleges around the country are left worried over their academic futures after the college, along with three other private institutions were deregistered this week.
Damelin College, Lyceum College, ICESA City College, and City Varsity were among the four colleges part of the Education Investments Corporation Limited (Educor) group to be deregistered by the Higher Education board.
Now students who had already registered for the 2024 academic year are now worried, with some of them worried that the college has not communicated with them regarding the future of the institution. Students say they are extremely disappointed in Damelin’s lack of communication, SABC News reported.
“It’s crazy how this happened in like three months. They never communicated and they have not said a single word to us so I think that Damelin is cooked, just know that.” one student said.
IT student at Damelin, Relebogile Thobejane, fears for her academic future at the institution.
She says she was shocked to learn

“With everything that is going on, the part that really alarmed me the most was that we have been here over a month and the head office gives us calls to ask if we are actually interested in coming into the institution, so that tells you that the communication between head office and the branches is not 100%, which means that there is something they’re not telling us, so maybe this branch is eating the money of the student’s,” another student said.
According to EWN, another anonymous student, who is a third-year IT student, claimed he is worried about his future. He moved to the Braamfontein camous from KZn and said his mother sold her car to pay for his studies for this year.
“I feel sad because I know about my family situation and I know what my parents went through to pay all this money. For example, this year, my mother was able to pay for the full year, just so I can tell you, she had to sell a car.” he said
“We trusted on Damelin but it seems like they actually disappointed us. I actually don’t know how I feel, no lie. I’m stressed, I’m confused.” he added.
Owami Sicina, a 1st year Bcom Accounting student at the same institution, is considering transferring to another school.
