Cape Town — The five suspects accused of murdering Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Investigating officer, Kumraan Pillay, said all five men were linked to the murder through cellphone records and CCTV footage, placing them at points of interest on the day of the killing, EWN reported.
State advocate, Elvis Gcweka, read Pillay’s affidavit and said four of the five men picked up guns and a getaway vehicle that was used on the day.
“The evidence therefore establishes that applicants one, two, four and five were part of the group who went to collect the Mercedes Benz and the firearms used in the killing of the deceased that day.” Gcweka said.
Pillay alleged that the men converged at a meeting spot near Jacobs on the M4 Highway to collect the vehicle and firearms. Two months after the killings, the vehicle as recovered in Cato Ridge and identified as the vehicle sued on the day due to a damaged headlight.
According to state advocate Lawrence Gcaba, one of the suspects had purchased airtime from tuck shop not far from where the car was left, SABC News reported.
“One of the suspects also purchased airtime from a tuck shop situated a few metres away from where the vehicle was abandoned. Investigations revealed that Sphamandla Ngcobo was identified as the person who recharged his cellphone with the airtime purchased from the tuck shop.” Gcaba said.
