Cape Town — South African Police Services (SAPS) in Tzaneen, Limpopo, are currently searching for a man who allegedly robbed a a hitchhiker he had allgedly offered a lift to.
SAPS reported that a man driving a gold Volkswagen Polo Vivo, robbed another man who was standing at a popular hitchhiking spot, on Friday 8 March around 11am. Preliminary information showed he picked the victim up at he hitchhiking spot area along the R71 towards Polokwane.
“When they reached Makgobaskloof, the driver turned to a secluded gravel road where he produced a firearm and robbed the victim of his belongings. The suspect blinded folded the victim and drove off, leaving him stranded.” Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said.
The victim was then assisted by a passer-by. Police opened a case of robbery with a firearm on arrival at the scene.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has once more cautioned all community members about the risks associated with hitchhiking unknown vehicles or picking up hitchhikers.
“Police are actively investigating this incident and are working tirelessly to apprehend the suspect.” she said.
This follows another hitchhiking incident gone wrong in Limpopo after a 74-year-old German tourist was robbed and killed after he offered a lift to three Zimbabwean nationals, IOL reported.
Jan Thabonga Moshabi, 36, Abstein Madzvimbo, 22, and Thomas Moyo, 39, were remanded in custody when they appeared before the Northam Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.
Moshabi, Madzvimbo, and Moyo also face additional charges of contravening the Immigration Act, according to Limpopo spokesperson for the National prosecuting Authority (NPA) Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
