Cape Town — Following the kidnapping of Gqeberha businessman, Neal Ah-Tow (59), outside his Fish and Chips show, the Hawks have revealed there is a $1.4 million (R27 million) ransom demand issued.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, confirmed the ransom amount during negotiations with the kidnappers, and suspected that foreign nationals might be involved, The Citizen reported.
It is understood the suspects forced him into a silver Chevrolet Cruz at gun-point before speeding off. Mgolodela said when the ransom demand was made, Ah-Tow was able to request the name of his high-blood pressure medication from his daughter. The full details of his family whom the ransom money is allegedly been demanded from, has not been released.
