Cape Town – The Electoral Commission (IEC) has set a deadline of 4 March for citizens to submit objections regarding the eligibility of voters in the upcoming general elections on 29th May.
The commission provided an update on the state of readiness, announcing the publication of a provisional voters roll on Monday, with the final version scheduled for release in April.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, emphasised that objections must meet specific requirements outlined in the electoral act, and those submitted by the deadline will be considered, investigated, and determined by the commission by 11th March.
“The objections received on or before 4th March will be considered, investigated and determined by the commission by the 11th of March this year,” Mamabolo said.

He added: “It’s important to remind role players that objections to the voters roll are governed by the law. As such, both procedural and substantive requirements of section 15 of the electoral act must be satisfied when lodging an objection.”
