Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) intends to continue practicing cadre deployment and it insisted that the policy has employed suitable candidates to serve government positions.
This comes after the Pretoria High Court dismissed the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) appeal the dismissal of their attempt to have the ANC’s cadre deployment policy delcared unconstitutional. The court outlined that the DA’s official application was based purely on “speculation” and “conjecture”, EWN reported.
ANC spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu, said the judgment was proof that the ANC’s deployment policy was anchored on merit.
“Cadre deployment cannot be faltered in principle, for it is a common feature of democratic practice. The judgment also highlights that while the DA wants to uncover the ANC’s corruption, parties should not use it as an excuse to pursue their political objectives.”

The DA intends to appeal the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria’s decision to dismiss its bid. DA leader, John Steenhuisen, said said the party was disappointed by the judgment, News24 reported.
“As a party that respects the rule of law and the Constitution, we respect the judgment, but we believe there’s a number of errors in interpretation and law were made. “There’s a fine line between party and state that is observed. It goes to say that influencing government decisions is not the same as political meddling in the affair of government.” he said.
Steenhuisen said the DA believed that cadre deployment was a violation of the constitutional provisions which state that no one should be discriminated against on the basis of their party affiliation.
