Cape Town — Investigations are currently underway following yet another sexual assault case of a six-year old Grade R learner at Mookgophong Primary School in Limpopo.
According to police spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed a sexual assault case at the school, with police saying that the learner was allegedly assualted on the toilet. Ledwaba says investigations are under way, SABC News reported.
“We can confirm that we have received reports of another case at with similar circumstances at the school, more or less the same. Our provincial commissioner has ordered that family and violence child protection unit should come in at provincial level to assist local police.” Ledwaba said.
“We have also engaged other stakeholders, including the Department of Education, to get to the bottom of this because it seems there is a serious problem.” Ledwaba added.
Meanwhile, the families of the other two learners who were sexually assaulted want police to hasten the investigation for fears that the perpetrator may strike again. A four-year old learner, who was assaulted on 26 January, came home from school with blood stains in her underwear.
When the mother took the child to the hospital, doctors confirmed that there was evidence of penetration, and that an older boy came into the bathroom to hurt her.
Despite the daughter going through counselling, she’s still facing extreme trauma.
Another family said their daughter was also allegedly raped at the same school in 2021, and if nothing is done, more families will face the same horror that they went through.
