Johannesburg — The African National Congress (ANC) believes they are still in a strong position to keep its majority ruling in Gauteng, without a need for a coalition in the upcoming elections.
Speaking at the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) Lekgotla in Boksburg, which started on Monday, ANC Gauteng Chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi, said the two-day event is aimed at outlining the party’s programme of action for the rest of the year and finalise its election strategy, EWN reported.
Lesufi said the party was confident of keeping it’s majority, despite a slow and steady decline in its majority vote since the start of democracy in 1994. The party narrowly held on to its majority in 2019, with 50.19% of votes.
“Any other political party can claim what they want to claim but it is the ANC that has the capabilities, skills, and the talent… on issues presented to our people. The main strategy for the ANC this election season is to reflect on the 30 years it’s been in power.” Lesufi said.

Lesufi added that if the ruling party loses the elections, that is the end of the national democratic revolution. SABC News reported.
“We are entering a crucial stage where we will defend the African National Congress in our province and our message is clear, we want to win Gauteng without any form of coalition, without any form of factional partners, we will win Gauteng alone and we will govern this province alone.” Lesufi said.
The ANC also announced the installation of 6 000 CCTV cameras as part of a partnership with the Gauteng Province and Vumacam. The CCTV cameras will be installed in crime hot spots for safety for businesses, schools and roads. This launch forms part of the provincial government’s efforts to strengthen its fight against crime.
