Cape Town – ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and Police Minister Bheki Cele has said that he wouldn’t be surprised if former president Jacob Zuma becomes a councillor due to his “hunger for positions”.
Cele made these remarks while addressing the community in uMlazi M section in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) over the weekend.
“I have never seen a person in positions like this, he even goes as far as looking for them in the mud. I won’t be surprised one day when he becomes a councillor,” he said.

The comments came in the context of political activities leading up to the ANC’s 2024 manifesto launch rally on February 24.
Zuma, who served as the fourth president of South Africa from 2009 to 2018, has since been campaigning for the Umkhonto WeSizwe Party (MK) after resigning in 2018 following allegations of involvement with the Gupta brothers and state capture.
Zuma’s decision to support MK over ANC and President Cyril Ramaphosa has led to his suspension from the ANC, with tensions rising between him and party members over the use of MK’s logo.
