Cape Town – A 57-year-old man has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving after allegedly interfering with a police motorcade escorting a foreign VIP dignitary to Lanseria Airport on Sunday.
Despite warnings from traffic officials and police, the driver attempted to enter the motorcade multiple times, leading to his arrest on the third attempt, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said.
“The man who is expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning was warned by traffic officials and SAPS members escorting the VIP to stay away from the convoy but he allegedly ignored warning signs,” said Mathe.

“According to the National Road Traffic Act, vehicles displaying a blue light, have absolute right of way when it is safe to do so and motorists are urged to give way for them.”
Blue lights, which signify the right of way for official vehicles, can only be used by law enforcement and military personnel, making civilian use a crime.
