Cape Town — The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) will reveal their findings from the 2021 July unrest on Monday morning.
The investigations were conducted in KZN and Gauteng and revealed the incidents resulted in over 350 casualties and extensive damage to businesses and shopping centres, SABC News reported.
The unrest was marked by violence and looting that prompted a comprehensive investigation by a committee appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa that highlighted state structure failures that prevented the unrest.
The SAHRC held an imbizo to determine the full scope of the work done, while the CPL conducted investigative hearings where various stakeholders and affected parties presented their reports and evidence in respect of the 2021 unrest in KZN. Both the SAHRC and CPL are set to present their reports and findings and will launch them together.
Both the SAHRC and the CRL Rights Commission have since completed their reports with findings and recommendations and plan to publicly launch the two reports, together as follows:
