Cape Town — ActionSA leader, Herman Mashaba, claimed that an ActionSA delegation was interrupted by a man who intimidated him and his party with a gun while they were visiting a school.
Mashaba said him and his team were visiting Mathole High School in KZN to congratulate the school and staff on their matric results for 2023. However, the meeting was disturbed by a man who blocked the school gate and entered the premises with a gun, The Citizen wrote.
Mashaba said he did not interact with the man himself but that there was commotion between the school staff and the man.
“He came just as we were ending the meeting but he was not allowed in the room where we were. He told the school principal that her business is to teach and that she must leave politics alone,” he said.
Mashaba revealed that he was not at the school for political reasons, and that they were simply there to congratulate the staff on a job well done for the 2023 matrics. He also said the party was ready for the 2024 elections and that the party would be releasing their manifesto in March.
“We are ready to govern South Africa and I think we will do well in the elections because South Africans have confidence in us,” he said.
ActionSA led a march outside Parliament in Cape Town to make their submission against the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill. Led by Angela Sobey and Michelle Wasserman, ActionSA feels the BELA Bill, in its current format, grants too much power to the Minister of Education and takes power away from parents and school governing bodies (SGBs).
ActionSA feels that education is one of the most powerful tools in building a strong society, and the BELA Bill will not achieve that, saying the Bill fails to address the challenges in the current education system.
Quality Education remains one of the most powerful tools in building a prosperous society, but the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Bill – in its current form – will unlikely achieve that goal.
