Cape Town – The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) has reported an overall pass rate of 98.46% for the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams in independent schools, a slight improvement from the 2022 rate of 98.42%.
Of the pupils, 88.59% qualified for tertiary education.

A total of 15,180 candidates took the IEB exams at 275 exam centres between October and November 2023.
The IEB traditionally releases its results ahead of the Department of Basic Education.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is set to announce results for at least 900,000 matric exam candidates, with some expressing mixed feelings and anxiety about the outcome.
