Cape Town – The murder case of award-winning rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane in, which occurred over 10 months ago, remains unsolved, leading to public criticism of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
Police Minister Bheki Cele provided a recent update, claiming the investigation was at an advanced stage, with the getaway car and the gun found, and some witnesses in protection.
The police minister said that the investigation has progressed significantly, and it is only “a matter of time” before the perpetrators are apprehended.
“For the fact that the getaway car was found, the gun itself has been found, some of the witnesses I’m told are in protection order, which means it’s a case that has really covered some ground, we just need to get that particular person,” Cele told the media on Friday, according to EWN.
However, Cele’s statement mirrored a previous interview.
Cele told Metro FM talk show host Faith Mangope two weeks ago that he police “just need to get that particular person”.
“We have found the getaway car, the gun has been found. They have found two people that I know for sure, those people have been kept very safe because they know very well what happened that particular day.

“Those two guys [the witnesses] must be kept very safe because they know what happened on that particular day. Even beyond what happened on that day – about the networks that led to the unfortunate murder of AKA,” he said at the time.
His comments drew criticism from EFF leader Julius Malema.
“He said the same rubbish about Hillary Gardee, the bastard. He said some people involved included high-ranking leadership of the EFF,” The Citizen quoted Malema as saying.
AKA succumbed to a fatal gunshot at close range at the back of his head on Florida Road, Durban, on Friday, February 10th. The death of the 35-year-old rapper was confirmed by Durban police at the scene.
