Cape Town – Two police officers in the Western Cape are facing disciplinary action for allegedly lending a police vehicle to a member of the public.
The constables, based at the Nyanga police station, are accused of allowing a taxi boss to use a state vehicle without authorisation.
The incident, considered irregular, was captured in a video posted on social media earlier in the year, police said.
Following an investigation into illicit activities involving the taxi boss, the officers were arrested and charged under sections 56 and 59 of the Police Act, police spokesperson Brig Novela Potelwa said.
They appeared in court, and the case was postponed to January 2024.
The Western Cape police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, expressed a commitment to eliminating officers who violate the law and departmental regulations.
