Cape Town – Two Zimbabweans aged 19 and 23 are facing perjury charges after allegedly opening a false business robbery case at Belfast Police Station in Mpumalanga on Friday last week.
The suspects claimed that armed men robbed their workplace at a casino, but police discovered inconsistencies in their statements.
Further investigation revealed that the duo had allegedly taken money from the business for personal use and fabricated the robbery case to cover their tracks.
“It was soon discovered that, in fact, the two allegedly took money from the business for themselves and used it for their benefit then opened a case instead to cover their tracks,” police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said.
The suspects, Margaret Ndlovu and Tladiwa Madzokere, appeared in court and will remain in custody until their next hearing on December 27, 2023.
Police warn that false cases waste state resources and individuals engaging in such actions will be dealt with accordingly.
