Cape Town — ANC Members who want to represent the party in Parliament and provincial legislatures will need to have a post-matric qualification or any relevant expertise.
The ruling party recently made changes to the criteria for those who wish to serve as a public representative for the ANC in provincial and national government.
According to Chairperson of the election committee, Kgalema Motlantle, the new regulations have been put in place to make sure the ANC is represented by the most suitable candidates, EWN reported.
“The minimum requirements for serving as an MP is that a candidate must, preferably, have a post-matric qualification, or have the relevant capacity, experience or expertise that will enable them to make a constructive contribution in the relevant sector,” Motlantle said.
“All candidates must have completed four OR Tambo online leadership modules before being registered by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).” he added.
ANC members who want to be selected to represent the party in Parliament or Provincial legislatures have to be in possession of a “post-matric qualification”.

Any candidate found guilty of any kind of misconduct by the party’s internal disciplinary committee, will be barred if they are nominated as the party looks to assert clean conduct.
“The candidates must have no criminal record or charges brought by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and this of course excludes political crimes committed before 1994,” Motlantle added.
The ANC will conclude the nomination process for public representatives in January 2024.
