Cape Town — South Africa’s Bryoni Govender, has made her way back to South Africa following the conclusion of the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador.
Since Natasha Joubert, reigning Miss SA, could not compete since she competed at the Miss Universe pageant in 2021, Bryoni was chosen to represent South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant after she finished as runner-up in the Miss SA pageant in August.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Bryoni’s participation at the pageant, with many people deeming her one of the favourites. In the end, Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios walked away with the coveted crown, Bryoni impressed and managed to secure a top 20 finish.
Despite falling short, Bryoni’s journey was one to remember. Following the conclusion of the pageant, Bryoni took to Instagram and wrote a hertfelt message about her journey, and how proud she was of her achievements.
“Lastnight my wildest dream of walking on the @missuniverse stage came true, and we, South Africa, made Top 20.
“I wore my heart on my sleeve and gave 100% of myself which is why I woke up this morning with a wealth of peace and gratitude to have had this once in a life time experience.”
“The most rewarding part of this entire journey was receiving all the kind words of encouragement, love and support from my fellow South Africans! I hope to have made you all proud! ♥️🇿🇦” she concluded.

According to The South African, Bryoni used the platform to advocate for her campaign, ‘Her Way Out,’. This campaign focuses on educating women about their legal rights and providing access to justice projects.
As Bryoni makes her way back home, she shared glimpses of her journey on Instagram, giving her followers a behind-the-scenes look at the Miss Universe experience.
The anticipation and excitement of her return are palpable, as South Africans eagerly await the homecoming of their representative.
Bryoni has also been excepionally proud of her Indian heritage and said in a video that she was proud to be representing South Arica as an Indian, revealing that her entire lineage is Indian and that she wears that with pride.
