Cape Town – Former World Cup-winning Springbok lock Hannes Strydom has died at the age of 58 in a car accident, according to various sources.
Strydom, a member of the 1995 World Cup-winning team in South Africa, had a successful career as a pharmacist after his rugby days, reports said.
According to Netwerk24, the accident occurred on the N4 in the Witbank area in Mpumalanga.

Strydom is the fifth member of the 1995 World Cup-winning team to have passed away, joining the late Ruben Kruger, Joost van der Westhuizen, James Small, and Chester Williams.
He played 21 Tests for the Springboks between 1993 and 1997 and was part of the starting lineup in the 1995 Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks.

He had previously survived a hijacking incident nine years ago and had recently faced scrutiny for allegedly selling prescription-only medication over the counter in his Pharma-Valu outlets.
