Johannesburg — A woman who was arrested after she allegedly murdered her husband and three children in order to get insurance claims, appeared in court on Friday.
The woman appeared in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on Friday following her arrest when an intelligence operation was conducted, after family members had raised their suspicions.
According to IOL, National South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Sergeant Keshi Mabunda and a team of detectives have been working on this case for the past two months, following a tip-off from relatives of this suspect.

Mabunda explained that the body of one of the woman’s relatives was exhumed, and a forensic team was able to link the dots.
“The murder that was initially ruled a ‘natural death’ happened in Mmabatho in the North West, where a female relative died under mysterious circumstances in March 2023.”
“Investigations have revealed that the suspect fraudulently took out insurance on behalf of her relative prior to her murder,” Mathe said.
It was further reported that the team then investigated the deaths of the suspect’s son, who died in 2023, her husband, who died in 2016, and her two daughters, who died in 2015 and 2005.
According to eNCA, police are calling on insurance companies and communities to sound the alarm if they suspect foul play when it comes to people claiming from insurance policies.
A woman, who allegedly orchestrated the deaths of her relatives including her three children for insurance payouts, will make her first court appearance today. The 49-year-old was arrested in Centurion yesterday. @RefiloeSeboko has more.
