Namibia’s private sector is being encouraged to tap into a government-run green agribusiness programme.
Agribusdev green schemes currently under development are open to private-sector participation, according to the Namibian.
Participants are encouraged to lease, operate and grow the projects on behalf of Agribusdev. At a later stage, they will be able to recoup their investment before returning the scheme to the organisation.
Namibian Agriculture Ministry executive director Percy Misika describes the plan as a build-operate-transfer model, that aims to develop the schemes while reducing the parastatal’s operational costs.
