Cape Town – Political party Cope has expelled Joburg Council Speaker Colleen Makhubele after she claimed the party’s involvement in the newly formed South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA).
The announcement was made by the party on Monday during a media briefing.
SARA, chaired by Makhubele, includes small parties like the NFP, AARM, ICM, and churches.
COPE President Mosioua Lekota said that while the party considered joining the alliance, Makhubele was not authorised to sign up the party, EWN reported.
Makhubele’s appearance on posters circulating online, indicating her leadership in the alliance, led to her expulsion for going against party lines.
