Cape Town – A man allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times at a student residence in Belhar, Western Cape.
The incident, captured on video, showed the woman on the ground after allegedly being stabbed by the man standing next to her with a knife.
Three additional men approach the suspect in an attempt to intervene and stop him.
Another video depicts a crowd seemingly assaulting the suspect following the woman’s stabbing.
According to Times Live, Western Cape police said the incident took place at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s student accommodation.
“Belhar police registered an attempted murder case after a stabbing incident on Saturday where a 26-year-old female student was injured. The circumstances surrounding this stabbing incident are under investigation.
“A 30-year-old male suspect was arrested and is currently under police guard in the hospital. The injured victim was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Investigations continue,” the report quoted the police as saying.
According to IOL, Gasant Abarder, the spokesperson for UWC, expressed condemnation for any instances of gender-based violence.
“Perpetrators of such gender-based violence have no place at our campuses, the report quoted him as saying.
