Cape Town – The attorney for Matthew Lani, says the content he shared on social media, in which he portrayed himself as a doctor, was created for entertainment purposes.
Lani was arrested on Sunday after attempting to sneak into a hospital, only to be released when the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
His lawyer claimed that his social media persona was for entertainment and that he had not consulted with or been paid by any patients as a doctor.

“He was actually facing one count of impersonating a doctor and as we already indicated, his conduct… in actual fact, he was just doing it for entertainment. There’s no complainant who says that he actually consulted with him as a doctor or maybe paid him as a doctor or anything of that sort, so as a result there is no case against him,” Lani’s attorney, Dumisani Mabunda said outside court on Monday.
Although he was initially relieved, the National Prosecuting Authority stated that investigations into the matter were ongoing, suggesting potential legal repercussions in the future.
