Cape Town – Community members reportedly shot and killed an armed man who, along with another individual, attacked a male pupil at Embizweni High School in uMlazi F section.
According to IOL, the suspects, one of whom was a former pupil at the school, initiated a confrontation with the student due to an ongoing dispute.
The altercation moved outside the school gates, where a gunshot was fired into the air.
This prompted community members to intervene, resulting in one suspect’s death, while the other fled and is hospitalised.
“When we arrived on the scene, one of the suspects was already dead, what we heard is that one of the suspects had a gun and he fired gunshots. Then the community came to find out what was going on in the school.
“They then clashed with the suspects and one of the suspects died and the other is in hospital,’’ the report quoted Embizweni School Governing Body chairperson Marie Sokhela as saying.
The deceased suspect was revealed to be a pastor.
The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of vigilantism and lawlessness in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) region, and investigations are ongoing.
The school is also organising meetings with parents to address the situation.
