Tshwane — The City of Tshwane has warned that there is a possibility of the city running out of water for an extended period, as Gauteng continues to deal with water issues.
Municipal spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said Tshwane continued to experience an increase in the need for water, which was likely to put many residents at risk of having no water for an extended period, due to the drop in the city’s water reservoir levels, IOL reported.
The city is imploring consumers to prioritise water conservation methods to safeguard the city’s water supply. The strain on the city’s reservoirs and those that are managed by Rand Water is enormous,” he said.

Mashigo said the current strain on the reservoirs means residents in Tshwane have been urged to use water sparingly. Residents were also asked to see to their water leaks, and to remain vigilant against any damage and vandalism to water infrastructures. He added that some water leaks go unnoticed for extended periods, leading to a significant waste of water.
Water remains a big issue throughout the entire Gauteng province, with some areas going 50 days without water. Reisdents are understandably upset and have raised their concerns to their respective councillors.
