Johannesburg — South Africa’s newest music sensation is 21-year old Tyla Laura Seetha and she has gained international success and recognition for her hit song, Water.
Tyla’s incredible rise to success has made many South Africans proud and she continues to grow her brand and her name. She recently made a landmark debut appearance on the US Billboard Hot 100 when she came in at 67, an achievement she hailed as a win for the whole of South Africa.
The song’s popularity has led to the Water Dance Challenge and has elevated Tyla’s status even more, which makes her achievement more incredible considering her humble beginnings.
According to IOL, Tyla appeared on Swedish talk show, Bianca, where she spoke about ehr new rise to fame. While many thought it was instantaneous, some of her die-hard fans know how hard she worked to get to where she is today.
The song that put her name on the map was Getting Late, which came out in 2021. Despite the song not topping the charts like Water, it has an interesting backstory behind the making of the music video.
A Tyla fanpage on X revealed that that the music video was made with no record label, no makeup and that her manager had been the videographer.
She came out ready with no label, ghostwriters , her manager was the videographer, they had to rent venue for 20 minutes , her best friend styled her ! She has been a hardworker from the start ! https://t.co/Cj2UVJHo4z

It was me, my best friend, my manager – he also shot the video,” she said. Thinking she was joking, the interviewer asked, “What, your manager shot the video?”
“Yes,” she smiled. “My manager shot the video.”
