Cape Town – In a surprising turn of events, well-known philanthropist BI Phakathi recently announced on social media that he could no longer afford to assist people in need due to using up all his resources in the fight against poverty.
“This assignment is bigger than me. Right now, I am broke. I have used all resources to spread the good and fight poverty. Please pray for me if you can,” he posted.

After this announcement, donations started coming in, ranging from small amounts like R5.
Phakathi expressed his gratitude to those who donated, saying that he undertook this work with no external sponsors, relying solely on faith.
Thank you for the love family. I ask for prayers to keep me going, and you want to donate to the assignment. Givers are not good with receiving. Please be patient with a brother I push this work with no sponsors on video but faith to keep it real. I am humbled and forever…

However, on Friday, Phakathi revealed that he had initially called for financial assistance to see who would step forward to help.
He then announced on social media that he would be returning the money sent to him and instructed donors to check their direct messages.
Some individuals who had donated received unexpected substantial amounts, such as one person receiving R3 000 after donating R100 and another receiving R20 000.

Phakathi encouraged those who had experienced kindness to pay it forward and continue doing good deeds.
He has been known for his selfless actions, which he has documented and shared on social media to inspire others to follow suit, including buying meals for homeless individuals and providing financial help to those in need.
Despite his significant philanthropic efforts, Phakathi has maintained anonymity and has declined interviews over the years.
