Cape Town – Social media users are celebrating the driver of a Toyota Tazz as a hero for her actions in chasing down a thief who snatched her handbag and then struck him with her car on a bustling street in the Bluff area of Durban.
CCTV footage captured the incident at a petrol station where two men approached her car, snatched her bag, and attempted to steal her vehicle.
Another motorist intervened, causing the two men to flee.
Undeterred, the victim immediately chased after one of the robbers, driving her car onto a centre island and striking him, sending him airborne before he landed a few metres away.
Police witnessed the incident at the petrol station.
Social media users expressed support for the woman and criticised the South African legal system for seemingly protecting criminals over victims.
According to Times Live, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the handbag was recovered.
“Brighton Beach police are investigating a robbery case after an incident where a 43-year-old woman was robbed by two suspects,” the report quoted her as saying.
