Cape Town – Controversial businessman Edwin Sodi’s extravagant 50th birthday celebration, featuring a lavish multi-million rand property and attended by prominent personalities, has gone viral on social media.
According to IOL, the event included a luxurious dinner under the stars, attracting the attention of high-ranking politicians.

This display of wealth has raised questions about Sodi’s financial status.
Sodi has a history of receiving lucrative government contracts that have faced scrutiny due to poor performance. He is currently embroiled in multiple high-profile court cases, including a botched asbestos removal contract in the Free State, leading to charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering alongside former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule, the report said.
In addition to his legal troubles, President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate an almost R300-million tender awarded to Sodi and other contractors for the Rooiwaal water treatment plant in Tshwane.

This tender has been a subject of intense debate and remains unresolved.
The SIU will investigate the tender and may refer evidence of criminal conduct to the National Prosecuting Authority.
President Ramaphosa visited the site after a cholera outbreak in Tshwane, which claimed over 30 lives, prompting further scrutiny of the Rooiwaal wastewater treatment plant project, said the report.
