Cape Town – Author, activist, and the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, Zoleka Mandela has died after a battle with cancer.
She was 43.
The Mandela family confirmed through a family statement the death of Zoleka on Monday evening.
She was admitted to hospital on September 18 for ongoing treatment for cancer that had spread to multiple parts of her body, including her hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord.
“Recent scans revealed significant disease progression including fibrosis in the lungs as well as several emboli.
“Zoleka passed away on the evening of Monday surrounded by friends and family. Our sincerest gratitude to the medical team that took care of her,” read the statement.

Zoleka, known as a cancer survivor, had documented her 10-year journey with breast cancer in her autobiography “When Hope Whispers”.
She had previously announced her liver and lung cancer diagnosis in 2022 and later revealed bone metastasis in August, facing the emotional challenges of her illness and its impact on her family.
