Cape Town – Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, is seeking to have charges dropped against him for allegedly firing a gun during his party’s fifth-anniversary celebrations in 2018.
Malema was allegedly captured on camera firing a rifle at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium during the event. He is currently facing these charges alongside his bodyguard, Adriaan Snyman, and both are requesting the charges be dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
According to IOL, the EFF spokesperson, Sinawo Thambo, expressed hope for a positive outcome pending the application to dismiss the charges.

Malema had previously claimed that the shooting was a simulation and a part of the celebratory activities at the time, the report said.
The incident gained significant attention on social media, with video and audio evidence circulating widely.
The court case is progressing despite Malema’s recent criticism of the presiding magistrate, Twanet Olivier, for being late to court proceedings.
Olivier has committed to being on time for future appearances.
