Cape Town – The Gauteng health department is reportedly looking into allegations that an 82-year-old woman was tied to a hospital bed for two days using an electric cord and shoelaces.
Disturbing pictures of lacerations on her arms, apparently caused by the restraints, were circulated on social media.
According to News24, the incident is said to have occurred at Bronkhorstspruit District Hospital in Tshwane.
“The department has instituted an investigation into the matter to ensure that corrective measures are taken and, where required, relevant officials are held accountable,” the report quoted Gauteng health department spokesperson Motalatale Modiba as saying.
