Cape Town – Dennis Bloem, the longtime spokesperson of the Congress of the People (COPE), has resigned due to his dissatisfaction with the party’s leader, Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota.
Bloem criticised Lekota for transforming the party into a “laughing stock” by prioritising internal power struggles and “stomach politics” over meaningful political engagement, The Citizen reported.
In a brief message sent to Cope President Mosiuoa Lekota on Wednesday, Bloem conveyed his immediate resignation.
“I wish the party well with its future endeavours,” he said.

Bloem also called for the party’s leadership to address the internal conflicts that have plagued COPE, emphasising that political problems require political solutions.

COPE has faced a series of challenges, including suspensions, expulsions, and even physical altercations among members.
Bloem’s departure from COPE does not mark his exit from politics, as he expressed his intention to remain engaged in addressing the country’s issues.
